Blaze was not named for blaze orange, but rather for St. Blaise who is the patron saint of wild animals. At her very first field trial she broke away like a rocket, and we knew that from there forward her name would have two meanings! She is retired from field trialing now, but her pure desire still brings us much pleasure on occasional hunting trips. She hasn't lost much drive over the years, and is still running strong at the age of 11. In the spring of 2009, she was awarded the Bob Estes Memorial Trophy for taking first in the Hunting Dog Stake at the Conestoga Vizsla Club's Spring Field Trial. As a young dog, she was ranked #4 on the VCA Top Ten Puppy/Derby list (12/2003), next to three littermates. We regret that we didn't pursue getting her trained as a broke gun dog, as being in the field is her true passion in life. Blaze is a sweet and even-tempered girl that loves attention from anyone that will give it to her. Her best friend is our young daughter. Most of all she has passed her wonderful health and temperment on to her get.
Blaze has given us three awesome litters which produced 22 offspring; 8 whom are still currently competing in AKC events. To date she has produced:
3 Field Champions, 1 Champion, 1 Amateur Field Champion, 6 others pointed in the field, 3 pointed in the show ring, 6 Top Ten Puppy/Derby, and 8 Junior Hunters.
Her grandkids and great-grandkids are now achieving much success in the field and show ring! She has certainly stamped her pawprint on the Vizsla breed! She is now spayed and enjoying the retired life.
